Michael is Director of Strategy and Marketing with Horse Racing Ireland (HRI), the national authority for racing from 2001 to the present. Role covers Marketing, Communications and Strategic planning. Led the Strategic Marketing Review on Attendances, published in 2011, to direct the industry’s response to the recession. CEO of HRI racecourses (Leopardstown, Fairyhouse, Navan and Tipperary, representing c. 25 per cent of racing attendances nationally) from 2008–2010. Commercial/Marketing manager for the Curragh racecourse 1992–2001. Marketing Manager (Dublin) for British Midland Airways 1989–1992 Prior to that Product Manager Bord na Mona (solid fuels and horticultural products) and advertising agency executive.
