Tom Betts leads the global analytics team, with analysts based in the US, UK and Asia. He has seen the transformation of data and analytics, and subsequently how it helped the FT better understand customers and grow.
Tom was previously head of data analytics for FT.com, having joined the FT in 2009. He was instrumental in establishing data as a core competency for the Financial Times and grew a team who have successfully catalysed the use of data in decision-making across the organisation.
Prior to the FT, Tom worked in a consultancy capacity delivering large scale data mining projects in a number of industry sectors. He led data analytics projects focusing on customer insights for some of the largest organisations in the UK in telecoms (Three, Vodafone, T-Mobile), insurance (Royal Bank of Scotland Insurance, Insurance Fraud Bureau) and in government. He holds an MSc in Informatics from the University of Edinburgh and a BSc in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Sussex.
